Mahindra Satyam hiring 300 more for domestic BPO operations

26 Aug 2009

Mahindra Satyam, which slashed operating cost and rationalised headcount to stay afloat, is back on a hiring spree with plans to recruit 300 more employees for its BPO arm by the next month.

Mahindra Satyam has earlier announce that the company is recalling around 1,000 of its associates who were sent on half-paid leave, as new orders started trickling in.

The company has recalled 700 employees since then.

Tech Mahindra, which borrowed around Rs2,300 crore to finance the Satyam deal, is paying around Rs20 crore per month towards interest cost of the loans.

Mahindra Satyam also announced the receipt of a major domestic contract for providing back office support. The company, however, did not name the client.

"To support the client we have already hired 700 employees in the last one month and will hire another 300 by the end of next month," Mahindra Satyam BPO CEO Vijay Rangineni said.

Mahindra Satyam BPO has one delivery centre each in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Pune and this is the first major order secured by the company in the domestic market.

The company, however, does not have a global delivery centre so far. Rangineni said the company would rather focus on the sizeable domestic market for the time being.

Mahindra Satyam's total headcount will go up to around 2,900 post recruitment.
