Mahindra Group, which acquired a 51-per cent stake in French two-wheeler maker Peugeot Motorcycles (PMTC) January this year, is now planning to launch a range of Peugeot scooters in India, including the three-wheeler Metropolis.

Peugeot MetropolisMahindra Two-Wheelers is working with Peugeot Scooters to introduce the Peugeot models and a three-wheeler scooter in India, reports quoted Dr Pawan Goenka, executive director of Mahindra and Mahindra, as saying at an event.

Mahindra is planning to roll out three models of Peugeot scooters in different price brackets and power ranges, which include the Django, Satelis 125 and Speedfight, according to a report published in Topgear.

The Django 125cc scooter with its retro-styling will take on the Vespa LX 125.

The Peugeot Metropolis model is are already on sale in European markets. It is powered by a 400cc, four-stroke engine which boast of a liquid-cooled and electronic fuel injection technology.

It churns out a maximum power of 37bhp at 7, 250rpm and 28lb-ft at 5, 500rpm. This engine is mated with a CVT (continuous variable transmission) that helps the scooter achieve a top-speed of 144kmph. It gets disc brakes on front and rear axles, and has a fuel tank capacity of 13-liters.

Mahindra is likely to change the specifications of the Metropolis since with the European-specs it would be too expensive a product in India. It may come with a smaller capacity engine.

The Metropolis can be a tough competitor for the upcoming Honda PCX150, Hero Zir and other premium scooters in India.
