Mahindra unveils new SUV NuvoSport, launch set for 4 April

Utility vehicle major Mahindra & Mahindra on Tuesday announced the addition of a new model, NuvoSport, to its SUV portfolio. The new vehicle will be rolled out in early April.

NuvoSport is based on the new generation Scorpio platform, but with a bold and aggressive styling, the company said, adding the new vehicle is targeted at those leading an active, outdoorsy lifestyle.

Pravin Shah, president and chief executive for automotive division at M&M expressed hope that NuvoSport will meet the needs. He, however, did not provide other details of the SUV such as engine capacity, power-train, price etc.

"I am sure with NuvoSport, we will further consolidate our leadership in SUV segment and effectively address the entire gamut of customer segments across price points ranging all the way from Rs4.5 lakh to Rs25 lakh," he said.

NuvoSport has been designed and developed in-house by Mahindra design team, while its R&D has been done at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai.

Mahindra, which is now being threatened by a flood of SUVs from other carmakers seems to be in a hurry to launch new modes to beat competition.

Early January, the company launched its first petrol engine-driven compact vehicle KUV100 in the Rs7 lakh range and late last year a mid-segment unit called TUV300 under Rs8 lakh range.

M&M, which has seen sales slide throughout last year, is banking on its new models and petrol powertrains to drive growth.
