Mamata against Tata retail venture in West Bengal

Trinamool Congress president Mamata Banerjee today said on that her party would resist the group if it entered the retail sectoe in West Bengal.

Today marked the seventh day of her party's indefinite agitation in Singur against land acquisition for Tata Motors' Nano plant, which the West Bengal government hopes to showcase to attract mega projects.

She said that it would be a diaster for small traders if the Tatas were allowed to enter the retail sector.

The Trianmool has called for a rally in Singur on 1 September in support of small retailers, to safeguard the interests of poor retailers already facing hardship due to entry of large groups into organised retailing.

She said her party would resist the Tata retail venture through mass movements.

She said the Marxists only spoke against imperialists but were backing the intersts of capitalists by supporting Tata projects, while failing to show their opposition tro rising inflation.
