24 Oct 2008

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country's top carmaker today announced an increase in the prices of select models ranging from Rs2,000 to Rs6,000, only days ahead of Diwali.

Post hike M800 would be costlier by Rs2,000 while Alto would cost Rs2,500 more, a company official said.

Maruti has also raised the price of its compact cars Zen Estilo and WagonR by Rs 3,000 and that of Omni van by Rs2,200.

MSI's Sedan SX4 would be expensive by Rs6,000 while utility vehicle Versa would come at an additional cost of Rs3,500.

The company's multi-utility vehicle Gypsy would now be costlier by Rs5,500.

Select variants of premium hatchback Swift would also see a price increase of Rs4,500. It has, however, spared its mid-sized sedan Dzire from the price hike.

MI reported a 36.52 per cent dip in net profit for the quarter ended September, at Rs296.1 crore, against Rs466.5 crore in the same period last year.

The company attributes the price hike to rising input costs, specially that of steel.
