Maruti sales surge 11 per cent in March

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car maker today said it recorded 95,123 units in total sales in March, a growth of 11.04 per cent over the sales figures for the same month last year. The figures were boosted by the best ever monthly export performance.

The company sold 85,669 units during March 2009, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.

It also reported a 28.55 per cent rise in annual sales during the 2009-10 fiscal at 10,18,364 units as against 7,92,167 units during the previous fiscal on the back of a number of new launches and product refreshments.

This was also the first time an Indian car maker had clocked the one million units mark for sales in a single year.

MSI sold 79,530 units in the domestic market as compared to 73,855 units in the same month of 2009 a rise of  7.68 per cent.

Exports surged 31.99 per cent to 15,593 units from 11,814 units in the year-ago period, it added. This marks the highest ever monthly exports by the car maker, breaking the earlier record of 14,847 units achieved in August 2009, the company said.
