Maruti Suzuki discontinues Ciaz RS; new version on cards

11 Feb 2017

Maruti Suzuki has discontinued the Ciaz RS and the vehicle is no longer listed on the official website. Although there are reports on the internet the Ciaz RS has been discontinued recently, a check with one of the company dealerships revealed the Ciaz RS was discontinued in December 2016, according to a report in The Financial Express.

The discontinuation seems a little strange in view of the fact (reported by the same paper) that the Ciaz is the largest-selling sedan in the country, having recently overtaken the Honda City. Maruti Suzuki has not yet confirmed the discontinuation of the Ciaz RS.

Maruti launched the Ciaz RS variant in 2015 and the version was available in Z plus trim with both petrol and diesel engine.

The sedan was later reintroduced in the market with minor updates in interiors and features such as the instrument panel with grey chrome finish and a body kit including front and side skirting, trunk lid spoiler and rear under-body spoiler. In addition, the car featured smart play infotainment system, dual airbags and ABS (Anti-lock braking system), which is also part of the regular Ciaz feature list.

Maruti launched the Ciaz RS variant with prices starting at Rs9.20 lakh for the petrol engine, while the diesel variant was priced at Rs10.28 lakh. The RS variant was offered in seven colours.

Maruti Suzuki, according to FE, is planning to introduce nine new models in the coming year and it is expected that the company will bring in a new Ciaz that will replace the existing sedan. Also, the company might sell the new Ciaz under the NEXA dealership.
