Maruti Suzuki hikes car prices by Rs1,000 to Rs12,000

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country's largest car maker, on Saturday announced an across-the-board hike in the prices of its vehicles, taking a cue from similar price hikes by Honda, Toyota Kirloskar, Tata Motors and Skoda.

Maruti Suzuki has effected an increase in the prices (ex-showroom-Delhi), ranging from Rs1,000 to Rs12,000 across various models, including the recently launched model Baleno whose prices have been increased in the range of Rs5,000 to Rs12,000 depending on the variant.

The company currently sells a range a vehicles starting from entry-level car Alto 800 to premium crossover S-Cross, priced between Rs2.52 lakh and Rs13.74 lakh.

The price increase is effective from 16 January 2016.

The average hike in the ex-showroom prices across models, starting from entry level hatchback Alto 800 to premium crossover S-Cross, is between Rs1,000 to Rs4,000, the company said in a statement.

Besides, the company has also hiked prices of its recently launched premium hatchback Baleno in the range of Rs 5,000 to Rs 12,000. Baleno is priced between Rs4.99 lakh and Rs8.11 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).

Honda Cars India has already increased prices of its vehicles across models by up to Rs10,000. Czech carmaker Skoda has also increased prices of its model range by up to Rs33,000 beginning 1 January.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor raised prices of its cars by up to Rs31,500 while Tata Motors has hiked prices of its passenger vehicles by up to Rs20,000 from this month.
