India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki today said it has rolled out more than 300,000 K Series engines, its latest generation engine that powers models like the A Star, Swift, Swift Dzire and Ritz, so far.

The feat was achieved within 19 months of the introduction of the engine series in India, according to a senior company official.

The official said, going forward, the K-series engine would play a key role in Maruti Suzuki's strategy of consolidation of its leading position in the Indian automobile sector.

Apart from its cars, which are already powered by the engines, the company plans to progressively fit these on other models as well over a period of three to five years, he added.

The company has more than 50 per cent share of the Indian car market. Last year it sold 7,65,526 units of the total 15,26, 787 units of passenger cars sold in the domestic market.
The company offers two variants of the K series engines - 998 cc three-cylinder, 'K10B' fitted in A-star, Estilo and the new WagonR and a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder 'K12M' petrol engine powering Ritz, Swift and Swift Dzire.

In addition to the K-Series engines, MSI also has other engine series such as F Series fitted in the M800 and Alto, G Series powering the multi utility van Eeco and the M-Series that drives mid-sized sedan SX4.
