Maruti Suzuki sales fall 8.8 per cent

Maruti Suzuki India, the country's biggest car maker by sales, saw its total sales drop by 8.8 per cent  to 80,298 units in June from 88,091 units in the same month last year, its lowest sales since July 2009.

The company reported a 3.8-per cent fall in domestic sales to 70,020 units from 72,812 units in the same month last year, Maruti Suzuki India said in a statement today.

Export figures for the company also pointed to a downtrend by 32.7 per cent to 10,278 units from 15,279 units.

Sales of Maruti 800 model, once the flagship of Maruti, declined by 12.8 per cent to 1,823 units in June 2011 from 2,090 units in June 2010.

The A2 segment (comprising Alto, WagonR, Estilo, Swift, A-Star and Ritz) saw good demand and sales rose by 2.4 per cent to 52,599 units from 51,418 units.
