Maruti Suzuki to recall 13,157 Diesel engine cars

New Delhi: India's top passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited today said that it will  recall for inspection 13,157 cars to inspect their 'Connecting Rod Bolt'.

The models affected by the recall are 4,505 Swift Dzire  diesel sedans, 6,841 Swift  diesel hatchbacks and 1,811 Ritz diesel cars with engines manufactured between 13 November 2010 and 4 December 2010.

"If the Connecting Rod Bolt is found defective, the company will replace the component free of cost," Maruti Suzukui, in which Japan's Suzuki Motorsholds a 54.2-per cent stake, said in a public communique.

No other vehicles in the range or the vehicles exported by Maruti Suzuki are impacted, the statement said.

Maruti Suzuki dealers will contact owners of the cars. The new part has been despatched to the dealer workshops.

Owners of the three diesel models purchased after 13 November 2010, can check www.marutisuzuki.com to ascertain if their diesel vehicle is among the vehicles  affected by the recall. Customers need to fill in the engine number (D13A followed by 7 digits) on the computer screen.

The engine number is embossed on vehicle ID plate and also on the vehicle registration documents. Customers may also contact the nearest Maruti Suzuki dealer workshop to ascertain if their car is amongst the above vehicles.
