27 May 2016

Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki today said that it is recalling 75,419 Baleno and 1,961 Swift DZire cars over faulty airbag controller software and defective fuel filters.

This recall comes a month after the New Delhi-based company recalled 20,427 S-Crossover cars over faulty brake part.

The recalls include both petrol and diesel variants of Baleno manufactured between 3 August 2015 and 17 May 2016. Out of the 75,419 Baleno's, 15,995 cars are of diesel variant and 17,231 cars allotted for export.

Maruti Suzuki, which has 6 of India's 10 top-selling cars with 73-per cent market share, said that 1,961 DZire diesel cars will be attended to for inspection and replacement of a defective fuel filter.

Maruti Suzuki noted that that the recall has been issued proactively and voluntarily taking customer safety into consideration.

Starting 31 May 2016 owners of these recalled vehicles will be contacted by Maruti Suzuki dealers, who will upgrade the airbag controller software and replace the defective fuel filter free of cost.

Customers are requested to fill in the chassis number (MA3 followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) on the computer screen. The chassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also in the vehicle invoice/registration documents.
