Mumbai: Car market leader Maruti Suzuki has unveiled a new sedan, `Swift Dzire', priced below the company's existing car SX4. The new model is set for launch on March 29.

The company said the Dzire project, which started in 2005, is a planned progression of the Swift hatchback.

"The image of a hatchback and styling of Swift has been extended to the sedan," said Maruti Suzuki India Ltd executive officer (marketing and sales) Mayank Pareek, adding, "The new car will be available in both petrol and diesel variants."

The petrol variant has been priced between Rs4.75 and Rs5 lakh, while the diesel variant would be available for above Rs5.5 lakh, company sources said.

The car will come with 1.3 litre engine in diesel and petrol variants with three trims each. The new car will have the luxury features of its premium SX4 sedan like twin front air bags and an integrated music system. However, features like Auto temp control, alloy wheels and anti-lock brakes will be available in its top-end variants only.

The company expects the Dzire to drive volume sales.

Maruti Suzuki is also expanding capacity at its Manesar plant to three lakh units per annum by 2010, up from the existing about 1.4 lakh units in a year.
