Chennai: Maruti Udyog today launched a new Baleno variant, Baleno LXi in New Delhi. In addition, the company has slashed the prices of two other Baleno variants.

Priced at Rs.5.60 lakh the Baleno LXi retains the 1590 cc, all-aluminum 16 valve engine of the Baleno, with the existing 94 bhp maximum output. Other features such as anti-submarine seats, tilt steering, central locking, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, power steering and power windows are retained in the new variant.

According to Maruti Udyog, the Baleno LXi is in response to customer feedback for a car which was "big, safe, delivers on performance and is priced below Rs 6 lakh".

The Baleno, with a relatively higher import content, has seen a reduction in costs owing to the drop in customs duty announced by the government. The company has decided to pass on the savings from the lower duty component to the customers.

As a result, the price of the existing Baleno variants — Baleno VXi and Baleno Altura — have been brought down by Rs.25,000. The new price of Baleno VXi will be Rs.6.29 lakh while that of Baleno Altura will be Rs.6.78 lakh (ex showroom New Delhi).
