The use of its famous golden arches by political activists in Thailand has irked McDonalds no end, Associated Press reports. Taking offense at its trademark becoming part of the anticoup iconography the fast-food chain has warned activists to "cease and refrain" from using its trademark.

A centrally located McDonald's stores in Bangkok had become a gathering place for protests after the 22 May military takeover even as some protesters used the McDonald's logo in their anticoup signs, replacing the "m'' in democracy with the yellow arches.

According to McThai, operators of McDonald's restaurants in Thailand, it was maintaining a "neutral stance" amid growing political turbulence in the Southeast Asian kingdom known for its ornate temples, vibrant night life and white sand beaches.
