Mercedes-Benz to recall imported vehicles in China

German car maker Mercedes-Benz will recall a number of imported vehicles in China due to faulty seat belts and software, China's top quality watchdog said yesterday.

According to Xinhua, which quoted the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the company had started a recall of 2014-2016 manufactured S500 4MATIC and S63 AMG 4MATIC vehicles over defective seat belts.

Starting 13 November, Mercedes would also recall some 2013-2015 S400 L HYBRID vehicles, manufactured between 25 February, 2013 and 24 September, 2014, over faulty fuel system software.

The agency did not reveal how many vehicles had been recalled.

The company's dealers would inspect the cars and replace faulty parts free of charge.

Meanwhile, Mercedes Benz revealed the GLC Class SUV this year in June which is set to replace the GLK moniker globally. The German manufacturer had started local production of the SUV in Beijing, its second manufacturing plant after Bremen, in Germany.

Mercedes Benz is expected to introduce the GLC Class SUV India, next year, since the GLK it would be replacing, was only available in left-hand-drive version, this GLC would be available in the right hand drive version also.
