Minor fire at new Jamnagar refinery contained: Reliance

01 Apr 2009

Reliance Industries has allayed fears of  any major losses due to a ''minor fire'' that broke out in a section of its new 580,000 bpd export refinery in Jamnagar, saying the fire was contained in 30 minutes.

The company did not say which unit was affected, although reports quoting Jamnagar district collector VP Patel as saying that the fire started in the coker unit of the refinery, which converts residual fuel oil into lighter fuels such as naphtha and diesel.

Reliance Petroleum, however, said the fire was localised, contained and brought under control by the Reliance firefighting team within 30 minutes. It did not give details about the extent of damage caused by the fire.

There has been no casualties or any injuries. The rest of the RPL refinery is operating normally and product despatch from the RPL refinery is continuing as per schedule," he said.
