22 Aug 2001

The Multiservice Network division of the US-based Motorola Inc., a leading source of managed network solutions for the enterprise, announced RemoteVU Guardian, a next generation IP video transmitter designed to address the needs of institutional security and public safety.

The new product offers many unique features including IP multicasting, real-time remote access and the elimination of the distance restrictions imposed by traditional Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems.

The RemoteVU Guardian is designed for organizations that want to enhance their existing analog security systems by integrating digital video, Voice over IP, and data while the network it operates on is constantly maintained. It allows users to securely access, monitor and store digital video - whether in real-time or archived from a single or multiple locations - using a Web browser and network connection.

According to a senior official of Motorola, the RemoteVU Guardian completes a full end-to-end integrated solution that runs over the company's customers existing network. The company believes that with the division's background in IP networking and the new product, RemoteVU Guradian, its customers will be provided the latest tools to address real business security needs. The security industry is currently embracing new technologies, such as digital video, to extend the limited reach of their systems in place today.

Using RemoteVU Guardian, a safety or security official can monitor a remote or inaccessible site from their PC, via the network, without disrupting the other applications, such as data or voice, already running on the network. RemoteVU Guardian also provides local storage at the remote location on a built in hard drive that can be accessed via an FTP client.

The new product is already being used by the police department in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, t to enhance security in the town's high school. According to police chief John Mackey, "The RemoteVU solution has given us a new tool to help keep our schools safe. Whether we're dealing with vandalism on school property or a potentially dangerous situation inside the school, we now have the ability to see and hear what's going on and make an entrance based on facts, responding in the best possible way."
