US data communications and telecommunications equipment provider Motorola Solutions Inc yesterday struck a deal to buy privately-held Kodiak Networks in order to expand its push-to-talk (PTT) mobile offerings.

Motorola Solutions, based in Illinois, did not disclose financial terms of the deal.

''The acquisition of Kodiak adds a complementary, carrier-integrated PTT-over-cellular solution to Motorola Solutions' existing WAVE PTT portfolio, which today includes solutions for high-performance PTT and flexible, ''over-the-top'' broadband PTT,'' said Motorola Solutions in a statement.

''Kodiak has a significant presence with mobile network operators and an established reputation for providing carrier-integrated solutions that complement Motorola Solutions' software and carrier capabilities,'' said Bruce Brda, executive vice president, Products and Services, Motorola Solutions.

''Kodiak has proven expertise in meeting the demanding security, reliability and performance needs of large mobile network operators that provide communications solutions to commercial customers,'' said John Vice, chief executive officer, Kodiak.

Plano, Texas-based Kodiak is a provider of standards-based broadband push-to-talk, and delivers sub-second calling performance over 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, and 3G networks.

Kodiak also allows organisations to cost-effectively add users, extend coverage and access broadband data capabilities, and its platform supports iOS, Android handsets/tablets, ruggedized devices, dispatch consoles, accessories, and enterprise productivity applications.

Kodiak has a large carrier-integrated PTT subscriber base throughout the world, with deployments across a number of carriers around the world.

Its clients include AT&T, Vodafone, KPN, Verizon, Telefonica, Bell Canada, Vivo and others.
