Nicolas Hayek awarded advertiser of the year

London: Nicolas G Hayek, co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of the Swatch Group, is the 'Advertiser of the Year' at the 49th International Advertising Festival held in Cannes from 16 to 22 June 2002. This prestigious award was presented to him at the festival, on the evening of 22 June 2002.
This honour recognises the creative and innovative talents demonstrated by Hayek, be it in Swatch product development or in Swatch advertising, achieving the number one position in worldwide watch industry sales.
Swatch, a company of the Swatch Group Ltd, has consistently produced well-received and exciting advertising. Recent awards include, a film bronze lion for 'Swatch Goal Keeper' and a press silver lion for 'Mosquito' in 1999. A press silver lion in 2000 for 'Suicide' and last year a silver lion in both press and outdoor for their 'Scuba Collection' campaign.
Hayek, 74, took majority shareholding with a group of Swiss investors in 1985, becoming chairman of the board and CEO in 1986. He played a decisive role in the recovery of the Swatch Group with its watch brands Swatch, Breguet, Blancpain, Jaquet Droz, GlashOtte Original, Leon Hatot, Omega, Longines, Rado, Tissot, Union Clavin Klein, Certina, Mido, Hamilton, Pierre Balmain, Flik Flak, and Endura.
