Nissan begins trial shipment of cars to Europe

26 Apr 2010

Nissan Motor India, a subsidiary of Japan's Nissan Motor Co, has begun trial exports of cars from its Oragadam plant near Chennai to Europe. The first trial consignment of six Micra cars left for Spain from Ennore Port on Saturday, the company said in a statement today.

The shipment is expected to reach Barcelona in 22 days.

Nissan Motor India managing director and chief executive officer Kiminobu Tokuyama said the company was gearing up for exports to Europe from the second half of 2010.

''Domestic production of Micra would begin next month and we will start production for exports in July,'' he said. The company would export to more than 100 countries including Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Exports are expected to reach 1.10 lakh units in 2011, he added.

The export consignment would be shipped in a 'pure car carrier vessel' from Nissan Motor Car Carrier Company Ltd.

Nissan Motor India signed a MoU with the Ennore Port to export its vehicles in 2008. Ennore Port would complete development of a berth space by this June-end, it said.
