Nissan Motor to recall 908,000 vehicles over defective accelerator sensors

28 Sep 2013

Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor Co yesterday said that it will recall 908,000 vehicles globally including 764,800 in its home country to fix defective accelerator sensors that could cause engines to stall.

The affected vehicles were produced in Japan between 2004 and 2013, the carmaker said.

Nissan is recalling certain models of its Serena minivan, Infiniti M luxury, X-trail SUV and Fuga vehicles in Japan, while it is recalling 98,300 vehicles including Infiniti M sedan models in the US and some vehicles in Europe and Oceania.

Yokohama-based Nissan said that the sensors, which were manufactured in Japan, can malfunction, causing the vehicle to slow down and at times stop.

The defect could also destabilise accelerator pedals, resulting in failure to accelerate properly.

The carmaker said that no injuries or accidents have been reported due to the faults.

Nissan said that it will replace the accelerator pedal and adjust the engine control programs.
