Nissan opens bookings for diesel Micra at select delearships

08 Nov 2010

Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd today said bookings for the diesel Micra have opened at its 20 dealerships,  without elaborating on the price and the engine specifications of the new variant.

The company says it has sold 4,500 units of the petrol variant of the Micra, which it had launched in July this year. The car is being rolled out form its factory located near Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

The company has gained ''huge confidence'' from the success of its petrol variant, which has spurred the launch of a diesel engine model says Kiminobu Tokuyama, managing director and chief executive of Nissan Motor India.

The company also plans to launch the Micra sedan model in India. The car will be based on Nissan's V-platform sketches of which have been in the markets overseas. The company has followed up the sketches with some new low-resolution images of the car  revealing the interiors and exteriors in full detail.

The sedan, the Nissan Sunny seems to be a miniature version of the Teana as far as styling is concerned and the first few pictures reveal that the engine under the hood is the Nissan HR15 petrol delivering 110 BHP of power and 148Mn of torque.

According to auto analysts, this means that the Sunny would compete against Fiat Linea and the Hyundai Verna rather than the Tata Indigo Manza and the Maruti Suzuki DZire.

This car to be launched in the Chinese markets will be available in India by the second half of 2011.
