Nissan's Chennai unit begins export of Micra to Europe

05 Oct 2010

Nissan Motor India, the local outfit of the Japanese auto major, has commenced export of its compact car, Nissan Micra. A consignment of 3,886 Micra cars meant for Europe left the Ennore Port today, the company said in a statement.

The Rs4,500-crore Nissan facility at Oragadam, near Chenni, jointly set up with French auto major Renault, made its first token shipment of six cars to Barcelona in April.

Nissan, which launched the compact Nissan Micra in the Indian auto market in July, now becomes one of the first companies to use the eastern gateway port of Ennore as an export base.

The company had, in 2008, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ennore Port Ltd, under which the port had provided a special berthing place of 1.4 lakh square metres for parking Nissan's vehicles meant for exports.

Nissan India now plans to export its Micra to over 100 countries, including West Asia and Africa.

The Micra is available in three variants in India - XE (the base variant), XL (mid) and XV (the top-end variant) - priced in the range of Rs3.98 lakh to Rs5.28 lakh (ex showroom New Delhi).
