Nissan North America  said it is raising the price for the all-electric Nissan Leaf - 2012 model and expanding more outlets in the US.

Leaf will be available this fall in 10 additional states mostly in the southeast and also in Illinois, said Brian Carolin, senior vice president of sales and marketing.

''Many enthusiastic consumers have eagerly anticipated ordering a Nissan Leaf of their own, and now we can make zero-emissions mobility a reality in more markets,'' Carolin said.

Nissan will raise the retail price for the 2012 model by about three per cent to  $35,200 - $37,250 (Rs1,563,936 - Rs1,655,017.5)

''The features that customers want most will come standard on the 2012 Nissan Leaf-including quick charging and cold-weather features,'' he said.

The Leaf, a 100-per cent electric, zero-emission car is already on sale in seven states and plans are to increase more outlets.
