Nissan has unveiled Terrano, its compact sports utility vehicle (SUV), starting with a sub Rs-10 lakh price tag. Pre-bookings for Terrano would commence from 1 September at select Nissan dealerships throughout the country.

The new model – the fourth vehicle to be produced locally in Nissan's Oragadam Plant alongside Micra, Sunny and Evalia - is due to go on sale across India in October.

''Terrano marks our entry into the compact SUV segment, which is one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian market today,'' Kenichiro Yomura, President Nissan India Operations, said.

The Terrano, which has been developed specifically for the Indian market, will play a key role in boosting Nissan's sales volume in the country.

''It follows the same design language as our renowned Pathfinder and Patrol SUVs and makes a strong statement, which is a key differentiator in this segment. We are confident that Terrano will appeal both to existing real SUV lovers and consumers looking to graduate to SUVs,'' Yomura said.

''The news and buzz on Terrano has already got consumers excited. Terrano is set to venture into a new segment of its own, that of a premium compact SUV with sedan like comfort at an affordable price and best-in-class fuel efficiency,'' Nitish Tipnis, director (sales and marketing), Hover Automotive India (Nissan India NSC) – Nissan Motor's sales company - said.

''We are confident this new vehicle from Nissan will meet consumer aspirations and set new benchmarks in India's SUV segment,'' Tipnis added.
