Nokia enters 3D maps with acquisition of earthmine inc

Nokia has announced the completion of its acquisition of  earthmine inc, a street-level, 3D mapping company that provides software and data as a service to those that need to relate information to places.

It said the financial terms of the deal were confidential.

As announced on November 13, earthmine's reality capture and processing technologies will become integral parts of the 3D map making capabilities of Nokia's HERE, the hand-held device makers first location cloud to deliver the maps and location experiences across multiple screens and operating systems.

Earlier on 13 November Nokia unveiled its a maps application for iOS, branded as HERE for its location and mapping service, which would be available across devices and operating systems.

It had also announced its new partnership with Mozilla and the planned acquisition of 3D capture company, earthmine.

The acquisition of Berkeley-based earthmine would help Nokia advance its 3D capabilities of HERE. Earthmine's reality capture and processing technologies will become an integral parts of HERE's 3D map making capabilities.
