Nokia’s bicycle mobile charger set for March debut in India

03 Feb 2011

Finland-based mobile handset maker, Nokia is set to launch its bicycle mobile charger in India come March.

Priced at Rs1,499, the bicycle charger will include a charger, a bottle dynamo and a phone holder.

Nokia's bicycle charger works on a similar dynamo-mechanism used to light up bicycles, where the dynamo draws power from the rotating sidewall of the front wheel. The 2mm charger gives 28 minutes of talk time after 10 minutes of cycling at speeds between 6 kmph and 50 kmph.

It is compatible with all Nokia phones that have a 2 mm charging interface including entry-level phones like Nokia 1200 as well as high-end phones like the X3 and N8.

The pricing of the device puts a serious doubt on the success of the device in a market like India where entry-level phones are priced around Rs1,500 and smartphones begin at Rs5,000.
