Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) has chosen Nokia Siemens Network (NSN) to implement part of its next phase transmission network that will help TTSL to match the upcoming growth in data traffic and in addition enhance IP capabilities of its existing mobile backhaul network.

TTSL, is a leading dual-technology telecom service operator with a pan-India presence while NSN is a leading global telecommunications services enabler.

As per the terms of the contract between the two organisations, NSN will supply TTSL with its three leading mobile backhaul platforms for enabling fast wireless connections from base stations to the core of the Tata Teleservices network. These are FlexiHybrid microwave radio, FlexiMetro radio for high capacity and FlexiHopper, a cost-optimised, low-capacity microwave radio for connecting base stations.

According to A G Rao, president and chief technology officer, Tata Teleservices Ltd, with subscribers increasingly demanding a new range of advanced services, the company was looking for a partner to strengthen the existing transport network to support both voice and data in an efficient manner.

Besides, NSN will also deploy its NetAct Operations Support Systems platform as also its NetViewer suite for TTSL which will allow efficient monitoring, management and optimisation of the network besides ensuring high-quality end-user services for management of the microwave radio networks.

According to the company' release, the full turnkey solution would include an array of services including, network planning, project management and installation and commissioning. NSN would continue to operate Tata Teleservices' network under an existing Managed Service contract, it adds.

Urs Pennanen, head of the Indian region at NSNetworks said, as the Indian mobile communications sector continued its relentless expansion and operators invested in new infrastructure, it became imperative to keep costs under control. He added that the company's IP transformation know-how would allow Tata Teleservices to not only implement new capabilities in its network but launch services with a reduced time-to-market and lower cost of ownership.
