NTPC to issue fresh tender for super-critical boilers soon

24 Jun 2010

After scrapping the original tender for purchase of super-critical boilers, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is planning to issue a fresh one.

The company's board at its meeting on Monday, decided to scrap the original tender and call fresh bids following L&T Power's disqualification on technical grounds, which left only BHEL in the race.

The fresh bidding process is expected to see participation of Italy's Ansaldo, which is setting up a boiler manufacturing facility near Hyderabad.

The company sought a two-month extension for submission of bid against the original tender but preferred not to put in a bid after its request was turned down by NTPC.

L&T Power can participate in the fresh bidding process on condition that it provides a parental guarantee from L&T, which has signed a required technological collaboration agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Japan for the manufacture of super-critical boilers.

NTPC is looking to procure 11 boilers, nine for its own projects and two on behalf of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
