28 Dec 2010

NTPC has signed power purchase agreements (PPA) with Gridco Limited of Orissa for sale of additional power from its proposed expansion projects at Darlipali and Talcher thermal stations in Orissa, Katwa in West Bengal and Pirpainti and Muzaffarpur Stage II in Bihar.

The projects are set for commissioning during the 12th Plan period.

NTPC also signed PPA for Farakka Stage III in West Bengal, which is scheduled for commissioning in the current fiscal.

Darlipali (3200 MW), Talcher Thermal Expansion (1320 MW), Katwa (1600 MW), Pirpainti (1320 MW) and Farakka Stage III (500 MW) are being developed by NTPC, while Muzaffarpur Stage II (2 x 195 MW) is being implemented by subsidiary company of NTPC in joint venture with Bihar State Electricity Board.

Eastern region states will benefit most from the new projects as the entire power from these projects will be fed to the grid.

NTPC yesterday announced the commissioning of the 500 MW Unit 7 of its Korba plant, which raised the utility's total installed capacity to over 33,000 MW. The state-run power utility has an installed capacity of 33,194 MW.

With the commissioning of unit 7, the total installed capacity of the Korba Super Thermal Power Station has reached 2600 MW.

NTPC plans to be a 75000 MW company by 2017 and has over 16000 MW capacity under construction at various locations.
