New Delhi: Panasonic today said that it had initiated its nationwide environment sensitisation programme, ''Ecos'kool'',  across 100 schools to encourage and engage young minds to contribute towards a greener future.

The programme, which started in Delhi and Chandigarh on 14 September and 7 October respectively, will continue till February 2011. A pilot programme across seven schools has been concluded under the first phase.

Arjun Balakrishnan, director operations and planning, Panasonic India said the programme aimed to create awareness about environmental issues in in a fun filled and engaging manner.

The Ecos'kool activity involves educating school children by taking out time from their schedules, engaging them in hour-long fun-filled sessions, sensitising them to alarming environmental issues and highlighting how their personal contributions would help bring about a change.

The company said the conservation thought process was aimed at the 9 to 12 year age bracket since educating them in the budding stages created a life-long time impact.

The activity involves participation of students in the first stage and their parents in the next and is conducted by promoters with strong communications and presentation skills to keep it lively. Panasonic also presents participating children with badges and certificates to give them a sense of pride in playing a role in making the planet greener and safer to live.

Also, as part of the programme, the promoter distributes leaves on which the students write their names. To add to the enthusiasm, a graffiti wall is created with the names of the students who have pledged to conserve the environment. The students are also invited to join the ''ecoskool'' community on Facebook.
