Philips re-enters India smartphone market with three devices

Philips has re-entred the Indian smartphone market with three new phones, the S308, W3500, and W6610, priced at Rs8,290, Rs 16,195 and Rs20,650 respectively, NDTV  reported.

The company also launched the E130, a new feature phone, which carries a price tag of Rs 1,960.

Philips Mobile had announced its tie-up with Redington as distributor for the newly-launched devices across the country. The company also revealed its partnership with Accel Frontline for after sales service of the handsets.

The Philips S308 is an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean-based smartphone, supporting dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) functionality with dual standby. The S308 comes with a 4-inch TFT display (480x800 pixels) and has a curvilinear design. The device is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor coupled with 512MB of RAM.

The smartphone comes with a 4GB of inbuilt storage, expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. The Philips S308 sports 5-MP rear camera with LED flash. The smartphone would be offered  in Black, Blue, Red, White, and Yellow colour variants.

The Philips W3500 comes with dual-SIM (GSM-GSM) support and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box.

The company which earlier sold only feature phones in India in early 2000s, is looking to emerge as among the top six players in the category in smartphones by December-end.

Shenzhen Sang Fei Consumer Communications Co Ltd country manager India S S Bassi told PTI, that over the past months, the company had strengthened its distribution and was now geared up for the Indian market.

He added, the company was now launching four new devices, one feature and three smartphones, and in the next few months, we would bring in more devices.

Sang Fei, a China Electronics Corporation (CEC) subsidiary owns the exclusive global licence to market and sell mobile phones under the 'Philips' brand.

India was an important market and the company was focused on bringing in products relevant to the needs of the country, Bassi said.

He added, one of the devices to be launched included the I928, a six-inch phablet featuring the latest Android Kitkat operating system, octacore 1.7 GHz processor.

He said, it would have a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front camera and could be priced at about Rs 35,000.
