Pizza on the go: Motorola-Domino’s tie-up

01 Aug 2001

In a unique development for the foods industry, the recognised world leader in pizza delivery, Domino's Pizza, entered into an agreement with Motorola, a global leader in providing integrated communications and embedded electronic solutions, for an m-commerce service called Pizzacast in the United States.

Under the agreement Motorola will provide a customised mobile commerce solution, which will allow consumers with web-enabled phones to order hot pizza while on the go. The Pizzacast mobile commerce application software was specifically designed to enhance Domino's growing portfolio of technology and customer relationship management solutions.

The agreement marks Domino's first step in the national deployment of the Motorola Pizzacast m-commerce engine that drives wireless retail transactions. According to Jack Scheible, senior director for customer relationship management at Domino's, this agreement is one more step in the pizza chain's ongoing commitment to develop innovative ways to establish new access points and relationships with customers.

Mr. Scheible believes that Motorola's strong understanding of the pizza business has made the Pizzacast product a very superior product that will robustly serve Domino's needs. Mobile commerce is one of the key applications driving Motorola's professional services offerings for enterprise customers and network operators.

In the first phase of Pizzacast, Domino's customers will have the ability to use their web-enabled mobile devices as ordering tools. Users will have access to valuable offers, coupons, upcoming promotions and new Domino's services while on the go with their mobile phone.

According to Tim Krauskopf, vice president of core software solutions in Motorola's Internet Software and Content Group, Pizzacast will have a ripple effect in terms of the introduction of similar m-commerce initiatives to a wide variety of high- volume consumer businesses. He believes that as m-commerce matures and becomes standard in the wireless world, Motorola will emerge the leader thanks to the early development of relationships like this one with Dominos.
