R Power to invest Rs1,500 crore on 200 MW wind power plant in Maharashtra

Reliance Power is planning to set up a 200 megawatt (MW) wind power plant in Maharashtra with an investment of around Rs1,500 crore.

Reliance Power, an Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company, will set up the plant in Vashpet, Maharashtra, DNA today reported citing company sources.

Reliance Power, currently has 94 MW of wind energy based power capacities located at different locations in India with 48 MW of wind power capacity in Maharashtra, 19 MWin Gujarat, 18 in Tamil Nadu and 9 MWin Karnataka.

The Mumbai-based company has placed orders for 80 wind electric generators with a rated capacity of 2.5 MW each, and has entered into a long-term power purchase agreement with its sister firm Reliance Infrastructure at a tariff of Rs5.37 per unit, said the paper.

The project, which is expected to generate additional revenue of Rs300 crore, will be eligible to get 3.7 million certified emission reductions in the initial 10 years of operation.

The project is expected to be commissioned in phases and reach full capacity by September 2012.

Reliance Power has finalised plans to develop 4,620 MWof hydroelectric power projects andalso identified locations for setting up of Wind and Solar based capacities, which would take its total renewable capacities to 1,000 MW.

It is planning to put up a 4,620 MWHydroelectric Power capacity in Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, 600 MWof solar energy based power capacity in Rajasthan and 400 MWof wind power capacity in Gujarat and Karnataka.
