Railway revenue up by 7.04% during April- June 2010

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during 1st April - 30th June 2010 were Rs2,2061.13 crore compared to Rs2,0610.63 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 7.04 per cent. 

While the earnings from freight movement have gone up from Rs13,927.05 crore during 1st April - 30th June 2009 to Rs14,930.11 crore during 1st April - 30th June 2010, an increase of 7.20 per cent, passenger revenue during first three months of the financial year 2010-11 were Rs6,190.70 crore, up from Rs5,802.66 crore, registering an increase of 6.69 per cent since last year.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs626.01 crore during April-June 2010 compared to Rs577.78 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 8.35 per cent.

The total number of passengers booked during April-June 2010 were 1937.22 million compared to 1836.51 million during the same period last year, an increase of 5.48 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-June 2010 were 965.05 million and 972.17 million compared to 922.94 million and 913.57 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 4.56 per cent and 6.41 per cent respectively.
