Railways' April- August revenue earnings up 7.95 per cent

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis rose 7.95 per cent year-on-year to Rs37,015.28 crore during the first five months of the current financial year (April-August 2010-11) against Rs34,289.58 crore in the same period of the previous year.

Total goods earnings of the Railways increased 7.09 per cent to Rs24,768.16 crore during April-August 2010 from Rs23,129.08 crore in the same period of the previous year.

Total passenger revenue earnings during the first five months of the financial year 2010-11 were Rs10,592.53 crore compared with Rs9,715.78 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 9.02 per cent.

Revenue earnings from other coaching rose 9.26 per cent to Rs1,028.90 crore during April-August 2010 from Rs941.69 crore in the same period last year.

Total approximate number of passengers booked during April-August 2010 increased 6.01 per cent to 3,251.33 million against 3,067.14 million during the same period last year.

 In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-August 2010 was 1,640.53 million and 1,610.80 million compared with 1,564.43 million and 1,502.71 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 4.86 per cent and 7.19 per cent, respectively.
