Raj TV plans to launch a 24x7 news channel

Mumbai: Regional language TV major Raj Television Network has announced that it has received approval from the ministry of information and broadcasting for launching its 24x7 Tamil news channel.

Recently in mid-August, Raj TV had launched Kalaignar TV and Raj Musix. Kalaignar TV is positioned as a general entertainment channel with programming spanning movies, news, serials etc, and Raj Musix is a music channel focusing on youth centric programmes.

In a communiqué to the Bombay Stock Exchange, the company has disclosed that it plans to start the channel on 14 November, which would be a 24x7 format covering all kinds of news, including general, business, national as well as international.

Raj TV Network had posted revenues of Rs38.64 crore for the year 2006-07, representing an increase of 22.64 per cent over the previous year.

The company has a two-year agreement with the Singapore - government owned TV12 for exporting content to Vasantham Central, a free-to-air channel which caters to the Indian community in Singapore. It is reportedly seeking similar alliances with media companies in Malaysia, Thailand, Fiji, the US, and the UK.
