Reliance Energy’s Rosa unit in UP starts delivering

18 Jun 2010

Reliance Energy, an Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company, has announced synchronisation of its second unit of 300 MW capacity at Rosa thermal power station in Shahjahanpur district with the Uttar Pradesh state grid.

Though the unit was synchronised with the grid on 15 June, the company announced it officially only after it informed the National Stock Exchange on Thursday. ''The second unit of the Rosa power project was successfully synchronised to the UP state grid on June 15,'' the company said in a statement.

The development comes almost six months after its first unit of similar capacity was synchronised with the state grid on 28 December 2009, which happened to be 77th birth anniversary of Dhirubhai Ambani.

The total capacity of Rosa thermal power station costing Rs6,000 crore is 1,200 MW. The other two units, of 300 MW capacity each, will come up by March, 2012.

Rosa is the first private thermal power plant to be set up in the state, which is facing peak power shortfall of 22-23 per cent, or 4,000 MW. The entire 600 MW power from the first phase will be supplied to the state.

Reliance is adding another 600 MW in the second phase, of which 300 MW will be state's share while the rest is to be marketed by the developer as merchant power.
