13 Dec 2013

Reliance Power today said it has started electricity generation from the second 660MW unit of its 3,960 MW Sasan ultra mega power project in Madhya Pradesh.

With the commissioning of the Sasan UMPP second unit, the company's overall generation capacity has crossed 3,200 MW.

The second unit of the project has commenced power generation in shortest time of just about a month from boiler light-up.

"This was made possible by adopting innovative commissioning methods. The remaining four units are in advanced stages of construction and will be commissioned over the next few months," the company said in a statement.

Coal production for the plant has already commenced, with 20 million tonnes coming from its captive Moher and Moher-Amlohri coal mines, it said.

With this unit the company's generation capacity has increased to 3,205 MW, which includes 3,120 MW of thermal capacity and 85MW of renewable energy capacity.
