Reliance Power Transmission signs pact with western region utilities

Reliance Power Transmission Limited (RPTL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure Limited, has signed power transmission agreements with eight power utilities in the western region for two inter-state power transmission projects - B and C.

The agreement was signed through two special purpose vehicles set up by RPTL for undertaking the projects under the Western Region System Strengthening Scheme-II (WRSSS-II).

RPTL, which won the bids for setting up 400 KV double circuit transmission lines of around 1,500 km under WRSSS-II, in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The bids were invited by the Power Grid Corporation of India as far back as 2005 on the directive of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).

The power transmission agreements have been signed after prolonged deliberations with power utilities in the western region. ''This is a major achievement that shall pave the way for attaining financial closure for these projects, costing Rs 1,800-crore,'' the release added.

The ministry of power has announced 14 ultra mega transmission projects for private participation. The estimated cost of these projects, to be implemented by end of the 11th Plan period, is about Rs25,000 crore.

Reliance Power Transmission has been selected through competitive bidding, as the joint venture partner  for setting up the transmission lines, over 300km long for Parbati and Koldam projects in Himachal Pradesh as well.
