Renault India to launch MPV and small car next year

Renault India plans to launch a multi purpose vehicle (MPV) and a small car in 2015 in a bid to push up its market share to 5 per cent in the next two years, up from the 2.6 per cent it currently has.

At the moment Renault, a fully owned subsidiary of Renault SAS France, has five models on offer in the Indian market - the premium sedan Fluence, the luxury SUV Koleos, the premium compact car Pulse, the Duster SUV, and the premium sedan, Scala.

Renault's country CEO and managing director Sumit Sawhney said the company had products in the pipeline which would give it the volumes it needed to cross 5 per cent market share in two years time.

Renault hopes to raise its market share from 2.6 per cent to 3 per cent by the end of March.

The company plans to expand its network across India to 175 dealerships by the end of the year. In South India it would have 45 outlets as against the current 38 outlets by the end of this year. Wooing customers during 'Onam' festival, Renault had launched a campaign which would run till 30 September. Customers would get free insurance along with assured free gifts worth Rs20,000.

The company also exports the Duster to right hand drive markets with India set to emerge a production hub for it these.

Meanwhile, the company's Duster had been so well received in the Indian market, that Renault had decided to launch a new 4x4 Duster variant sometime soon, ET reported. Duster sales currently account for around 75 per cent of total sales for Renault.

Sawhney said, the company was currently the youngest automobile brand in India and in the last two years, it had launched five models. He said the company was market leader with Duster in mid-SUV segment.
