Renault recalls 61,508 Koleos SUV’s over faulty fuel level sensors

French carmaker Renault is recalling over 60,000 cars exported to China over faulty fuel level sensors, according to the Chinese consumer quality regulator.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine yesterday said that Renault's Chinese subsidiary late last week started to recall 61,508 Koleos sport utility vehicles produced between 16 December 2008 and 10 July 2012.

The recall comes barely a month after Renault's recalled 5,097 Koleos cars in China due to welding faults in the lower front swing arm of the cars.

Fuel level sensors on the cars are faulty and display incorrect fuel readings on their dashboards after long periods of use and are unsafe to use, the administration said.

The Boulogne-Billancourt-based carmaker, in which the French government owns 15 per cent, will change the defective sensors for free.
