REpower, Vattenfall partner to install 122 MW wind power in Netherlands

04 Oct 2011

Suzlon group company REpower Systems SE, has signed a contract with Zuidlob Wind BV, now owned by Nuon, a part of Swedish Vattenfall, to install 122-MW wind turbines at a wind farm in the Netherlands.

Suzlon Energy Ltd, which has 95 per cent stake in REpower, said the company will supply a total of 36 wind turbines each of the 3.4M104 type, aggregating to 122 MW capacity to the Dutch company.

The turbines are to be installed in a wind farm near Zeewolde.

The project, with total installed capacity of 122 MW, will be the largest wind power project in the Netherlands held by a single owner.

The turbine type 3.4M104 belongs to the latest generation of onshore wind turbines of the three MW class and is optimised for locations with strong wind conditions. The turbines have a hub height of 98 metres and a nominal output of 3.4 MW each. The installation of the wind farm is to be completed in spring 2013, Suzlon said in a release.

"After the successful installation of the alpha ventus and Ormande offshore projects, we are very pleased to work together with Vattanfall also in the area of onshore wind. At the same time, we are proud to jointly implement this flagship project - one of the country's largest wind farms, said Andreas Nauen, CEO of REpower Systems SE.

REpower Systems SE, a Suzlon group company, is one of the leading manufacturers of onshore and offshore wind turbines. REpower develops, manufactures and markets wind turbines with rated outputs of 1.8 MW to 6.15 MW and rotor motors of 82 metres to 126 metres.

Suzlon group is the world's fifth-largest wind turbine supplier in terms of cumulative installed capacity at the end of 2010. The company has installed a total of over 17,000 MW of wind energy capacity spread across 25 countries in Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America and employs around 13,000 people.
