RPG group to expand retail presence in new format

Chennai: The Kolkata-based RPG group has drawn up plans to increase the number of retail outlets under its different formats. According to the president, Spencer's Retail J.H Mehta, group will be doubling the retail space from the present 3.5-lakh sq.ft in six months time.

The RPG group will be opening nine hypermarkets in the country of which seven would be in Delhi, one each in Aurangabad and Hyderabad. The group is also in the process of restructuring its retail formats and rebranding the 49 Foodworld stores as Spencer's Daily. The rebranding and restructuring brings back to centre stage the 140-year old brand Spencer's.

The four retail formats are Spencer's Daily (the erstwhile Foodworld outlets spread over 4,000 to 7,000 sq.ft, selling groceries, fresh food, etc) and Spencer's Fresh (2,000sq.ft stores selling vegetables, fruits, milk, eggs and the like) Spencer's Super (bigger outlets spread over 8,000 to 15,000sq.ft, selling groceries, fresh food etc) and Spencer's Hyper (huge outlets measuring over 25,000 sq.ft, selling groceries, fresh food etc at cheap rates).
