Samsung yesterday clarified that the voice-recognition capabilities of its smart TVs did not monitor living room conversations, as previously reported (See: Samsung warns its smart TV sets can snoop on users) reported.

The company has also updated its privacy policy to more clearly explain the working of its voice-recognition technology.

Yesterday, it was reported that users were warned in the company's smart TV privacy policy that spoken words containing personal or other sensitive information "will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party."

The third parties according to Samsung's policies, performed tasks like speech to text conversion, while data collection helped the company improve its services.

The feature could be turned off via the settings menu, but might prevent the user from accessing voice recognition functions fully.

As concerns mount that Samsung was snooping  on people's conversations, the company issued a blog post titled "Samsung Smart TVs Do Not Monitor Living Room Conversations."
