Samsung Galaxy NotePRO and Galaxy TabPro line of tablets

08 Jan 2014

Korean electronics giant Samsung yesterday unveiled four new high-end tablets aimed at the professional and enterprise segment.

The company introduced the Galaxy NotePRO and Galaxy TabPRO line of tablets in a packed Mandalay Bay hall at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The new Galaxy TabPRO, an expansion of Samsung's Galaxy Tab line of tablets, is available in three sizes - 8.4 inch, 10.1 inch and 12.2 inch, but the Galaxy NotePRO would be only be available in the 12.2 inch variation.

J K Shin, CEO and president of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics said, the company created the new series to kick-off a year in which Samsung truly established its leadership in the tablet market.

All four tablets would feature 2560X1600 pixel displays, Android 4.4 KitKat, Wi-Fi and LTE options and 8-megapixel rear cameras as also  2-megapixel front panels.

Analysts say, the new tablets would help the company straddle the gap between a normal tablet and a laptop computer.

The price and exact launch date of the tablets have not yet been disclosed by the company, but it is expected that these would be available by the end of the first quarter.

According to Nanda Ramachandran, vice president of Samsung's mobile business, at Samsung, it was constantly heard that people wanted to do more with their tablets.

He added, a new line of tablets would not only enable them to do more but also allow consumption. He said, the premium tablets were for both work and play.

According to commentators the message from Samsung was that the new tablets were supposed to meld business and personal use cases. The company's latest tablets have been  designed to address "every possible user case scenario."

They add though the size of the market for the jumbo tablets was not known, the tablets overall captured Samsung's larger strategy to create devices that did a bit of everything - and obviously leveraged the company's vertical integration.

The features on offer are:

  • NotePro comes with a widescreen display of over 4 million pixels.
  • It features a Magazine UX optimised for the large screen with the interface able to organise content easily on the big screen.
  • A virtual keyboard that was not cramped.
  • S Pen and the ability to draw a window of any size
  • Remote PC access.
  • WebEx preloaded.
  • According to commentators, the NotePro sounded interesting but could flop given that people were going for 7-inch tablets cases.
