Samsung unveils all-in-one desktop computer Ativ One 7 Curved

Samsung Electronics has expanded its curved TV screen range to cover computer monitors as well and is now preparing to launch its first new all-in-one desktop computer, Ativ One 7 Curved, that will have a curved screen just as its TVs.

The brand new Ativ One 7 Curved, an all-in-one Windows machine, features a slight curve in its screen that isn't prominent compared to its recent 4K TVs.

It's a 27-inch, 1920x1080 panel with great viewing angles and vivid color reproduction, although a bit sharper. The resolution is no match for Apple's flagship iMac with Retina Display, and it even falls short of Cupertino's regular 27-inch model.

It would look like a 27-inch curved TV, with all the PC components at the back of the monitor.

As with TVs, the curved display could provide a more immersive gaming and entertainment experience than conventional monitors, said David Ng, product manager at Samsung.

The Ativ One 7 Curved has got a metal frame, but around its back, there is a glossy design featuring a magnet for dust and fingerprints.

Samsung has a built in a pair of 10W speakers and the Ativ One 7 Curved is said to be capable of loss-less audio transmission through APT-X.

With its Intel Core i5 chipset and 8GB of RAM standard, the Ativ One 7 isn't exactly a screaming powerhouse, but should sufficient for basic gaming and movie watching needs.

Inside, there is a 1TB, 5400 rpm hard drive with "embedded flash drive." It has four USB ports (2 of them USB 3) and an SD / media card reader.

On the software side, the Ativ One 7 Curved features built overtop Windows 8.1, SideSync 3.0 for receiving texts and calls from phone on the PC, and control smart phone by mirroring its screen on the Ativ One 7's 27-inch display.

Samsung will start shipping the Ativ One 7 Curved in the first quarter of 2015 for $1,299.
