Samsung unveils smart internet-connected TV

10 Jan 2012

Samsung has unveiled a "smart" internet-connected television that has the ability to have its hardware upgraded every year. The device comes with a slot to add a new kit to boost processing performance and add new features.

The move would help the South Korean tech giant retain its lead as the world's best-selling TV maker.

Unveiling the firm's flagship LED television at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung's president of consumer electronics, Boo-keun noted that his firm currently sold two televisions every two seconds.

Apart from its "smart evolution capability" Samsung has also added gesture, voice and face recognition features to the ES8000 model.

The set can also recognise users thanks to a facial recognition facility that also pulls up the relevant selection of their favourite apps.

The device comes as the latest in a run of so-called Smart TVs the firm launched since 2008.
