SAP sees potential in Indian market

Germany's SAP, the world's leading enterprise solutions company, sees India emerging as a major market for strategic enterprise management, or SEM, solutions. This $5.05-billion German software company will target its SEM solutions at the major companies in the automobile, FMCG, infotech and telecom segments.

SAP has a fully owned subsidiary in India, SAP India Pvt Ltd. Globally SAP is looking at the Internet to drive its business. It sees Indian businesses using the Internet as their prime transport mechanism for products and services. In an increasingly web-centred and web-enabled business environment, the traditional distribution channels will change drastically, the software company believes.

Indian companies, which are shifting from the traditionally supply-driven strategies to demand-driven ones will need to look at predicting demand and for business solutions to enable that. Businesses will rely more on direct marketing and look to reducing business cycle time. SEM solutions can help them do this, and help business to business marketing as well as expand market horizons.

For this, SAP plans to use its Internet services portal MySAP.com to target the Indian companies.
